EDGEMONT Community Information

EDGEMONT is located in Calgary’s NW and is built on the same hill as Nose Hill Park, edging onto Sarcee Trail on its west, Shaganappi on its east, and John Laurie Blvd on its south.  This large family community boasts 25% of its over 16,000 population as children, and is home to some of the more highly ranked public schools.   It began its development in 1978 and is now Calgary’s largest community.   The median household income is about 100,000$, and it boasts many estate homes, medium sized detached homes, and a smaller selection of condominiums and housing tailored towards retired persons.  The Calgary Board of Education offers two schools, an elementary and a junior high school, and the catholic board also has an elementary school.

Edgemont is ideally located with easy access to the downtown core whilst spoiling its residents with 30 km of walking and bike paths, beautiful winding ravines, and it edges onto Calgary’s largest municipal park, Nose Hill.  Most typical communities in Calgary are encouraged to have 10% of green space, but Edgemont goes above this and boasts a full 25% green space.  The community is situated at a higher elevation than most of Calgary giving it spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains and Calgary’s downtown skyline.

Serviced by Calgary Transit Route 77, Edgemont is just minutes to the Dalhousie C-Train station for quick access straight into the downtown core.  Also close by is the Alberta Children’s hospital, Calgary University, and Foothills hospital.   The Edgemont Community Association works to create a sense of community within Edgemont and has a centre for its participants to rent out for a variety of functions.  They also offer sports and science programs as well as offering community information and organizing events.

 

EDGEMONT Schools

 

EDGEMONT has two Calgary Board of Education public schools, Edgemont Elementary School (K-6), and Tom Baines Junior High (7-9).  There is also a designated French immersion program offered in a neighboring community.  Overflow elementary students will go to Caption John Palliser.  Edgemont also has a (K-6) Catholic school, Mother Mary Greene, and it’s students would move onto junior high in a neighboring community called Brebeuf. Also offered within Edgemont are a variety of Preschool programs, including the Calgary Board of Education early intervention preschool program.

Citadel – An Established Family Community in NW Calgary

CITADEL is one of Calgary’s most desired and established NW family communities, established in 1993.  Walking and bike pathways tie this community together with a large central green space  home to tennis courts, skating rink, soccer fields, baseball diamond and play structures.   Many homes in this neighborhood offer spectacular mountain views.

This community is serviced by Calgary Transit bus route 199, with easy access to the Crowfoot C-Train Station.  It is just north of Country Hills Blvd and west of the newly constructed Stoney Trail, and east of Sarcee Trail.  This gives it great access to Banff National Park via the Transcanada Highway and also shopping at Beacon Hill.

Citadel offers a community association run by volunteers who organize seasonal events, such as Winter Galas and Stampede Brunches.

 

CITADEL Schools

CITADEL has two elementary schools, one through the Calgary Board of Education and one through the Catholic School System.  Citadel Park School is the K-4 public school with a large creative playground and access to wide array of technologies, each classroom is equipped with a SMART Board.  Students then move onto Arbour Lake School for Grades 5-9, in the neighboring community.

 

St. Brigid School (K-9) is offered through the Catholic School System, and through its core values emphasizes learning through respect for others.
