 So did COVID, low oil & high unemployment affect the sold price of a detached home in Calgary? As much as the media/news articles would lead you to believe that prices have dropped off a cliff. Here is what really happening to sold price in Calgary. As REALTORS we are expected to use Benchmark price. But many buyers & sellers also like average or median sold price. So sold prices, June 2019 to June 2020 is not as bad as we have heard from CMHC & other sensational new stories. So the “sky is not falling”, the Calgary housing market has been bruised but life goes on. The market is alive & kicking! (Data provided by CREB MLS.)

Calgary Basement Suites & Secondary Suites in 2020.
City of Calgary is waiving up to $900 in fees until May 31, 2020. There’s no better time to legalize your existing suite, or build a new one. The City of Calgary is waiving the fees for the development permit and secondary suite registry for all secondary and backyard suites until May 31, 2020. All secondary and backyard suites must be on City of Calgary suite registry by June 2020. In June 2020, the city will reinstate fees for the development permit ($471) and suite registry ($232).
